Who we are

The Equality Foundation is a UK registered charity (no. 1082190), established in 2000 and rebranded in 2021. We focus on tackling racial inequality and improving the lives of Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities. We are based at Dawes Road Hub, 20 Dawes Road, London SW6 7EN. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and the rights you have over it. We've written it in plain English , if anything is unclear, just email us.

What we collect , and why

We collect personal information when you interact with us, for example when you:

• Donate to us or set up Gift Aid
• Sign up for our newsletter or attend an event
• Volunteer with us or apply for a job
• Sign a petition or join a campaign
• Contact us by email, post, phone or social media

This usually includes your name, email, postal address and phone number. For events we may ask about dietary or access needs. For recruitment and equal-opportunities monitoring we may collect anonymised information such as age, disability, race, gender and sexual orientation. We also track basic engagement , for example whether you opened an email or clicked a link , so we can improve what we send.

The legal basis we rely on

• Legitimate interest , to tell supporters about our work, events and campaigns.
• Legal obligation , for example, sharing details with HMRC when you claim Gift Aid.
• Consent , for specific things like joining a local group or receiving optional surveys.

How long we keep your data

• Donors: 6 years after your last donation
• Newsletter subscribers: 5 years after your last engagement
• General contacts: 3 years after your last contact with our team
• Job applicants: up to 12 months
• Volunteers: up to 7 years after your placement ends

How we store and share it

Your data is held in password-protected, encrypted systems accessible only to staff who need it. Any paper records are kept in our locked office.

We never sell your data and we never share it for someone else's marketing. We only share it with trusted providers who help us run the charity , for example our bank, bookkeeper, IT provider, email and cloud services, delivery partners, event venues, HMRC and web analytics tools. They are all bound by data-protection rules.

Your rights

You can ask us to see, correct or delete the personal data we hold about you, and you can stop our marketing at any time using the unsubscribe link in our emails or by emailing us. We'll respond within one month.
